Day 1 (workshops):

  • The technology dependent patient: a practical workshop looking at the technologies that children with complex critical illness may require. The workshop will focus on how to manage these technologies during health and illness.
  • Palliative care and challenging communication: An interactive workshop looking at different types of communication challenges in patients with complex critical illness. There will be particular focuses on end of life conversations and challenging ethical situations.
  • PCCS CCI SIG meeting

Day 2 (symposium):

Managing the Present, Preparing for the Future

During this symposium we will focus on Managing the Present, Preparing for the Future. We will walk through the journey of a patient with complex critical illness, aiming to shine spotlights on MDT approaches to the following areas:

  • Managing and anticipating the acute admission to critical care
  • Challenges in decision making and ethical dilemmas
  • Reflecting on Critical Care admissions to actively inform future care
  • Care plans – bespoke MDT care plans, advanced care planning, CYPADMs
  • Collaboration with outpatient paediatrics to prepare for the future
  • Research in CCI – how can we help inform future care

During this symposium we hope to facilitate genuine, practical collaboration. We believe that we can work beyond ‘idea sharing’ to promote a culture of practical collaboration in which materials and resources can be shared to help this special group of patients.
